Guanyin in Meditation on a Lotus

Guanyin sits in meditation (Dhyana mudra) with the legs in padmasana but covered by her robes. The Bodhisattva wears a pointed five lobed crown centered by Buddha Amitabha and scarves extending down the shoulders. Her three-part garment is traditional with the exception of an apron section which extends down the front between her legs and rests just above the lotus below. The image is seated on a backless throne held up by three long stems that seem to attach to a single lotus. There are traces of rich red pigment and gilt throughout some of which was covered was covered with lacquer which has turned opaque.
