This type of Guanyin is a Songze Guanyin or a Child Giving Guanyin. As she has a child in her lap, she tenderly holds the child’s extended foot while the child raises the hand, which might be a later addition. She is seated on a backless throne that now has some deteriorated areas. She is dressed as a white-clad Guanyin with a hood over her head and top bun, as the hood falls over her shoulders. Her oval face is painted in skin tones and highlighted by painted and carved arched eyebrows below which are painted red lips in blacks and reds echoing the pigments used in the robes of Guanyin and the child.
