Guanyin sits in meditation, her left hand over her right and her feet in padmasana covered by her robes. Her head is titled forward as the compassionate Bodhisattva leans to listen to those in need addressing. Her half closed her deeply carved eyes are set under carved arched eyebrows which extend to the bridge of her nose Her oval face is framed by locks on her forehead which extend in plaited braids which extend down her shoulders and which loop over her pendulous ears which hear the cries of humanity. Her arched crown is centered by a small stylized image of the Buddha Amitabha surrounded by what may be cloud forms. The outer garment of the three part shawl is bordered at the front and sleeves with a hem and a large neckpiece at the chest. She sits on a backless throne toped by a ritual cloth above a rockery, the bottom of her cloth is ridged with stylized hanging vines, all indicative of her manifestation of Nanhai Guanyin, the Guanyin of he South Sea. The surface is covered with red and black lacquer and traces of gilt which originally covered the statue.
