Lacquer over Wood and Polychrome

Each of the whimsical gold and burgundy lacquered fu lions of this pair sits on his hind legs, with his front left leg curved with the paw resting on a ball. The heads are cast upwards, ears held back, eyes bulging and mouths open to reveal two rows of even teeth with upper and lower fangs at the end. Incised fur lines their heads, backs and back sides of their legs. A ribbon is draped around their necks from which it appears a long strand of fur hangs onto the high pedestals upon which they are perched.
