Guanyin sits in meditation wearing a five-lobed crown on a four-tier lotus throne held up by ten lotus stems. She sits on a six legged hexagonal pedestal with her hands in her lap in dhyana (meditation) mudra and her feet in padmasana with the soles of the feet exposed. The four tier lotus throne consists of four rows of lotus petals on a center lotus that is framed by four sets of lotus leaves on each side, all placed atop a footed pedestal. The Guanyin presents a very calm pose, a face expressing great peace and composure with a half smile, and the bung on her back is sealed. The statue is covered in burgundy laquer with large areas of gilt. Notice the circular swirls of the outer robe at the shoulders which is repeated in the deeply carved drapery at the knees.
