Pair of Mid 19th Century Tall Pewter Lamps
Item No. 30311

20th Century, N/A, China
41" x 9" x 9"
( 104.14 x 22.86 x 22.86 cm)
(H x W x D)

Pewter was used in China sparingly for centuries, as the preferred metal there was bronze which, in China, was plentiful. Pewter was, however, easily manipulated into various shapes, able to be colored and relatively inexpensive so it soon became, by the end of the 19th century, the preferred metal for export to Europe. These footed lamps are fashioned in traditional Chinese style with geographic shapes of the bottom half of the base mirrored on the top half of the base.
