This statue, which was made in North China, represents a seated monk, his right hand held up in a gesture of blessing, and his left resting atop his bent leg. As a monk, he is clean shaven and garbed in simple monks robes crossed high at the neck with flowing sleeves and draped to cover all but his plain monks shoes. His face is one of gentleness, with partially closed eyes under arched eyebrows and a slight smile. His large ears signify that he is a wise individual. He sits on a high but undecorated backless seat. Much of the original pigmentation remains.
