This meditative monk, probably a lohan, sits in padmasana, his legs coverd by his robes, hands held in his lap left over right in dhyanamudra, his shaved head covered by a hood which extends down his back over his shoulders. His face and hands are covered in skin colored lacquer and his well carved featrues are highlighted with painted eyes. He is wearing priest's robes crossed at the neck in layers, one end of which is looped through a ring at the left shoulder. His long layered sleeves frame his lower body and extend to his narrow plain base. His ornate robe is decorated in carved relief with dragons with extnded tendrils at the knees and with curved and floral designs at the hems, borders and sleeves.
Much of the original lacquered finish and pigmentation are in tact, although there are losses to the surface and a missing section on the base.
