This magnificent image represents Guanyin of the South Seas seated in on her throne in her cave in Pu Tuo. She sits in dhyana mudra in meditation with her fingers touching forming the triatna or triple gems of Buddhism; the Buddha, the Sangha and the Dharma. Her face with almost closed eyes glows in perfect meditation. Her three part crown with an image of the Amitabha Buddha in the center, holds up her chignon and covers the swirling hair which cascades over her pendulous ears and falls down her shoulders in three part braids.

Her gracefulness is enhanced by her elegant three part robe. An undergarment of dark blue (from crushed azurite) is delicately tied at the waist with a ribbon and flows over her knees. Her shoulders are covered with a delicate turquoise shawl which frames the undergarment. Above all is a flowing outer red robe with graceful sleeves which drape over the backless throne. The bottom of her robe is bordered in vertical fringes which symbolize moss from the cave in which she sits.
