This carved Taoist official holds a hu tablet in his left hand and places his right hand on his knee. He sits on a high round pedestal. He wears a high hat with five pointed segments, shaped in the form of tablets. He wears a high collared cowl over his long sleeved coat with a belt hung under his chest from which extends a long sash which extends to his feet. The back of the statue is fully carved and contains a cavity with the original ribbed bung. He was carved in Northern China.
