This finely carved Guanyin from North China stands elegantly on a plain high pedestal (partially degraded from age) with her right hand held up in front of her in vitarka and the right held gracefully below her chest. The focus of this elegant image is her high dramatic three part crown centered by a pointed lobe with a deeply carved image of the Amitabha Buddha. Her body is swathed in deeply carved elegant flowing multi colored robes which extend three quarters down her figure. A tiered beaded necklace covers her chest above her undergarment tied at the waist with a ribbon that extends down the front of her robes. Her full round face is highlighted by painted red lips and eyebrows which arch over her down cast eyes and is framed by her pendulous ears. The surface of the image is covered in lacquer over pigmentation with some flaking due to age.
