This massive carved Guanyin sits in padmasana with the soles of the feet facing upward. Both hands in are held in vitarka, the teaching mudra with the thumb and middle fingers touching to form a circle, the right is poised in front of her chest, and the left is held just above the lap. : A deeply carved Buddha Amitabha is centered in her tiered crown above her well defined eyebrows and almond shaped eyes peering downward. Her contemplative smile is enhanced by her closed pursed lips. Her broad gracefully carved body is adorned with a neck ornament centered with a flower. Faded patches of color highlight her red draped scarf which falls gracefully over her shoulders and arms, the border of her tiered crown and her blue gracefully

The surface of the image is covered with carved indentations throughout, possibly to resemble the trunk of a live tree, highlighting the Buddhist concept that all things are temporal -- life, people, ideas and statues to be revered --- and are constantly growing and changing.
