This very finely carved and modeled ancestor in the form of an official sits in a partially carved horseback chair, his feet with ruyi shoes placed squarely on the pedestal stool in front of him. His delicately carved features are set in a partial smile, and his eyes gazed somewhat downward with pieced holes for facial hair. He wears au unadorned robe with a high belt above his protruding stomach. Flaring, deeply carved sleeves frame his body extending to the top of his foot pedestal. His left hand is firmly placed on his knee and his right is turned up as if it once held an object. The image is covered overall in warm tones of red lacquer faded over years of use, and there are traces of gilt on the sleeves and front leg which originally covered the robe. This is truly a beautifully carved and special image.
