This seated ancestor figure is dressed in traditional mandarin style garb, a long robe covered with a high necked buttoned jacket, rounded cap and felt shoes. He sits on a carved backless chair with his feet placed on a pedestal below. Almost all of the original pigmentation remains, with the face and hands in flesh tones, the robes with a red collar atop the brown jacket and green robe extending to his black and white rounded shoes with green sleeve hems, seated on a red chair. His left hand rests on his knee while his right is held up with the two middle fingers extended upward. He was placed on a home shrine and has a cavity in the back sealed with a bong in which are placed sutras (scriptures), messages to ancestors, and, often, a live cricket to give the image “chi.”
