This extremely well carved seated lohan from Xian, North China is seated with both hands clasped in front of his chest in a position of reverence and contemplation. His layered priest's robes fall in graceful folds to the tips of his shoes. His head is covered by a scarf tied under the neck and extending to his broad collar. The face with heavy brows, eyes glancing downward and mouth set in a slight smile imbues the marvelous image with a sense of serene contentment. The statue is in excellent condition with the surface covered by a fine soft patina. This image was probably in the same grouping as lohan number 16436.
