News from Silk Roads Gallery
As you are probably aware, the last two weeks have been stressful for us and for our business. In our difficult times, however, we have been inspired and helped by the scores of you who have reached out and offered us your support and love. If there is one thing we have gained from this experience, it is the knowledge that we are indeed blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful and caring people.
We have been selling Asian art and antiques in Los Angeles for over fifteen years. We love what we do, get tremendous satisfaction out of our relationship with our customers, and are proud of our reputation in the community. We are cooperating with the authorities and through our legal counsel we are trying to understand how items that were imported by others, cleared U.S. Customs, and were purchased by us in the United States could possibly be “illegal,” especially when such items are sought and exhibited by reputable museums. We look forward to getting answers to those questions, resolving this investigation, and always being in full compliance with whatever the law requires.
Central to our mission since we began our business is to foster and encourage love and respect for Asian culture, history, religion and art. We have made Silk Roads Gallery not only a repository of beautiful and interesting Asian art and antiques but also a cultural and educational center. We have offered our Gallery gratis for spiritual teachings, fund raisers, academic lectures and meetings, traveling exhibits and book signings and have derived great pleasure in doing so.
We have been advised that a small number of our items are under review, and, therefore we can continue to conduct our business normally. We have removed from sale the few objects we understand to be possibly under review or have marked them “not for sale” until it is clear that they can be available for purchase. We encourage you to stop by, say hello and continue to enjoy our collection.
We have been planning for some time to close the Gallery and move to a more intimate environment. We announced this in an email more than two months ago, and this continues to be our intention. As we have been saying for years, there are not many of these antiques available for sale and “when they are gone, they are gone.” If you ever intend to own any of these fine items, now is the best, and last, time to do so.
To help us move forward in a more positive direction, we will be having a Blessing Ceremony in the as we have had many times in the past. Once the monks have been scheduled, we will send you an evite to join us for this event.
Thank you again for your support and understanding.
