Dear Design Professionals,
Silk Roads has had the pleasure of working with Set Decorators and the SDSA for the past 10 years. During that time, we have had fun renting our wonderful antiques and contemporary objects, tracking down items which we don’t have on hand, offering our library of books for sale and just perusal, and, most importantly, providing consultative services to designers and their staff. We love doing this, and wish to continue it with a vengeance.
For those of you not familiar with us, we have the largest collection of antique and contemporary Buddhist and spiritual art from throughout Asia, as well as Asian furniture, paintings, statuary, accessories that are truly unique, and from your response, attractive additions to your sets which require that extra touch to assure authenticity and distinctiveness. Although we specialize in Asian artifacts and furnishings, we can also scramble up most other “ethnic” touches from the Mid East, Africa, and Australia or lead you in the right direction.
Since we have been dealers and scholars of Pan Asian and ethnographic art for so long, we can guide you in the right direction to assure that what you are trying to portray “rings true” and is culturally, politically and spiritually correct as well as artistically pleasing. We have been indispensable to several set decorators in directing them in selecting items based on the subtle sensibilities characterizing different Asian cultures –what might look Tibetan might really be Chinese, and a political no no on a set, or what may look like Hindu may be Buddhist, a religious no no.
In short, we love to educate, participate as well as provide or find the perfect objects to help you succeed. This web site contains just a small part of what we have to offer.
